When treating a heart attack, it is essential to act fast, to try and prevent further heart damage.

- recognise the following symptoms. Normally the patient will complain of central chest pains, that grow into the jaw and left arm. The Patient will be short of breath and look very pale, and feels dizzy.
- call 000 immediately, explain the symptoms, and carefully follow any instructions given. (would be helpful to get bystander to call, and get another to find a first aid kit.
- Put the patient in a sitting position, with support to their back and knees raised. make sure the patient is comfortable and calm. loosen any tight clothing.
- Ask the patient if they carry any medication for heart problems, they may have a nitrolingual spray, if they do, spry 2 pumps under tongue.
- Give patient Aspirin, and ask them too chew instead of swallow it.
- Keep the patient calm while you wait, put jumper around them to keep them warm.
- if Patient stops breathing, initiate CPR (DRSABCD tab)
